Save money and waste by bringing your own container

A new student-led initiative aims to reduce the amount of organic waste on campus.

From November 12 to 30, the Bring Your Own Container (BYOC) pilot is happening in La Piazza, the main food court in McMaster University Student Centre.

Anyone ordering from Creation X or the Hammertown Deli will have the option for food to be placed in their own container-to-go. And this option not only helps reduce waste, but also reduces your cost at the cashier: a 25-cent discount will be applied to your purchase.

Civil engineering students Stefania Abbatangelo and Natalie Ciancone are behind the initiative. If the pilot project is successful, Hospitality Services hopes it will lead to a permanent solution.

Help raise awareness about the initiative by sharing your purchase on social media, using the #BYOC hashtag, and tagging the Academic Sustainability Programs Office @MacSustain.
